Cameron Park Rotary Club members are a friendly bunch. That’s the verdict of students in Folsom Lake College’s current Communications class, according to student leader Hannah Miller, who spoke at last week's meeting. Members of the class visited the club recently to observe the way club members spoke to each other and conducted club business. The students followed up the visit with written survey questions exploring group dynamics. Hannah, who became acquainted with the club while working as a server during lunch meetings, summarized the class' findings in areas of identified roles, demonstrated leadership and problem-solving strategies. Most striking, she said, was the positive emotional climate created by club members' good-natured enthusiasm. It is clear, Hannah said, that club members like and respect each other, and that new club members and visitors feel welcome. The result is an efficient decision-making process, led by President Anne who is held in high esteem as a manager. The class evaluation included possible areas of improvement, which Hannah reported as continuing efforts to increase diversity by encouraging younger new members, more female members and broader ethnicity. Each of these areas, current club members noted, are part of on-going vision efforts Rotary-wide as well as club goals. |
