Observatory - Check the weather before you venture out
Current Status: The observatory is now open to the public. Press Here for further details.

Whether you are coming from Somerset or Georgetown, Pollock Pines or El Dorado Hills, check the weather in Placerville before you come to look through our telescopes at the Cameron Park Rotary Observatory. Weather conditions are probably the biggest thing affecting the operations at the observatory. If it is raining where you live (In El Dorado and surrounding counties), the observatory in Placerville will almost certainly be closed. With intermittent clouds and no threat of rain, the Observatory will most likely be open but on these kinds of evenings, the view of the sky will be obscured occasionally by clouds.

Precise weather information for those anticipating visiting the Cameron Park Rotary Observatory is currently being designed. There are several possible schemes under consideration. One of them is the installation of an on-site weather station capable of broadcasting real time weather information over the Internet. To the left is an example of real-time weather information from Lake Forest, California.
Other possibilities include links to real time weather charts and images such as the ones shown to the left and below.
Note: All of the information on this web page is tentative and represents what we think will be the plan on this subject once the Observatory opens in the summer of 2006.
