Next Meeting: Charlie Basham
Charlie Basham will speak about the most visited attraction in the western slope of El Dorado County, Gold Bug Park in Placerville.  It will be at the Cameron Park Country Club.
Last Meeting, January 10, 2019—Don Fuller and Dick Franks
Both Don Fuller and Dick Franks took trips to Africa in 2018, and both to similar regions ranging from Cape Town to Victoria Falls.

Don spoke first.  Don and Linda's trip was in the first half of October, corresponding to the start of Spring in this part of Africa.  It is a dry time of year, and he didn't need all his expensive mosquito-killing clothes from L.L.Bean.  The trip was sponnsored by the Smithsonian, who sub-contracted to Oddysey Tours.  Don had a automated nice video/slide show of trip accompanied at least for part of it by theme music from the movie, Out of Africa.  His video included scenes from Johannesburg, rainbows from Victoria Falls, antics of the critically endangered black rhino, family and baby rhino; and images of a village of mud houses in Namibia.

Dick cut back his slide show to avoid showing too many things that Don had in his video.  Dick and Sharon's trip  was organized by Overseas Adventure Travel, and was in the African winter season.  There were 15 people in their group, and they traveled from point to point in two private planes, and, to see the animals, in two heavily modified pick-ups.  The tent accommodations looked very luxurious.  Dick's animal pictures included: a bull elephant with his ears out, indicating aggressive tendencies; wet rocks with eyes (hippos); wildebeest, leopards, and lions.  They were out on the pick-up based safaris for 8 hours a day, for 12 days, so it took a bit of endurance.

Both were excellent shows enjoyed by all.
