On the evening of March 23, many of our members attended the Area 6 Foundation Dinner at the Apple Mountain Golf Resort. The featured speaker was "Morotcycle Bob" Mutchler, a long-time Rotarian who was afflicted with Polio, but still rides his bike to tirelessly raise funds for Rotary's Polio Plus program to eradicate polio forever. In the photo above, from left we have Bob's wife, Bob, Prez Kurt Raffetto (Placerville), DG Jeff Gabriel, Prez Kim Little (Camino-Pollick Pines), Prez Don Fuller (CP), and unknown Georgetown Rotarian. Bob's lifelong passion for Rotary and raising money for Polio Plus was especially inspiring because of the severe case of polio he has had to live with through out his life. He was selling his own biography whose title says a lot: "From Iron Lung to Iron Butt". "Iron Butt" refers to an organization that sets up severe challenges of long-distance motorcycle rides that many riders participate in. Proceeds from the book sale and sales of Bearpaw brand boots (that were donated to Bob) would all go to Polio Plus. Attendees also participated in a fun raffle (the winner donated the winnings to Polio Plus) and to buy a key that might open a "treasure chest" of 16 bottles of local wines. It was a fun and inspiring evening well-attended by our enthusiastic Cameron Park Rotarians! [This is a short Gear Up because we were dark on Mar-23 for our usual Rotary luncheon and business meeting. No Announcements, guests or Happy Bucks to list.] |
