Next Meeting: John Waterman
The January 3rd meeting will feature speaker, John Waterman, who is a Camp Fire survivor from Butte County and Rotary Club of Paradise member.  The meeting will be at the Cameron Park Country Club.
Last Meeting, December 20, 2018—“Mission to Honor” Veterans
Co-Presenters Gail Lohmann (former C.P. Rotarian) and Kathy Hatten outlined a new and unique project to honor veterans in El Dorado County for the club. They are providing a ”virtual” trip to all of the veterans monuments in Washington D. C. for 40 selected county veterans on Friday, May 17, 2019. (more details below) The idea is based on an actual day long trip to Washington D. C. for Florida veterans sponsored by the Honor Flight organization. A video of that actual trip highlighted the presentation and showed the joy experienced by the many veterans of our countries’ past conflicts as they spent a day on a guided tour of monuments and memorials in our nation’s capital.

Highlights of the “virtual” trip to honor county veterans include:
  • A police-escorted bus trip from the American Legion hall to Foothills Church.
  • The “boarding” of an airplane  (including TSA security checks) with each veteran having a guide who is an active duty or reserve service member.
  • A “virtual” tour of monuments and memorials in Washington D. C. with narration through the magic of video and film.
  • Using green screen technology, group pictures at the memorials.
  • Lunch and snacks during the day.
  • Shirt, hat and commemorative souvenir.
Gail and Kathy invited the many C. P. Rotarian veterans in attendance to apply to become part of this experience which they hope will become an annual event. They encouraged tall club members to consider becoming a sponsor for a veteran and for the “Mission of Honor” virtual trip at the $100, $250 or $500 level. Volunteers are also needed the day of the event to serve lunch, set up and clean up, act as guides and assist in any manner necessary to make the experience a memorable one for those who are selected to be honored. If you can help or donate, contact Kathy Hatten at 530-350-5188 or by email at khatten@visitingangels.com.
