Barbara Vermilyea, the executive director of Progress House, described the mission, scope and programs at Progress House in El Dorado County. Progress House started in 1973 at the Hotel Camino. Progress House provides an array of treatment, counseling and care alternatives for people suffering from drug or alcohol addiction, including: - Detox & Withdrawal management - Perinatal residential treatment - Residential treatment - Outpatient treatment - Case Management - Recovery Services - Transitional Housing Progress House's facilities are in a variety of EDC locales: - The Camino Women and Children's facility with 16 beds; - Garden Valley Women and Children Facility with 20 beds; Coloma Men's Facility with 28-beds; three men's and two women's transitional housing facilities near the heart of "Old Hangtown." Progress House also operates an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) where participants come three mornings or evenings a week for 2-3 hour programs. One of the Rotarian questions was whether people suffering from opiod addiction were a significant part of the patients at progress house. Barbara said that, indeed, they definitely see opiod addiction as an epidemic here in El Dorado County. |
