This week we are DARK at lunch as we celebrate Past President Adam Marshall’s 2025-26 Rotary year with his Debunking at an evening social at Don and Linda Fuller’s home in Shingle Springs.

Spouses and partners are invited and encouraged to attend, along with friends of Rotary and business partners. If you have friends who would enjoy our group, please notify Don if you haven’t already and bring them along.  Cost is $20 per person.

It promises to be a fun evening as we celebrate Adam and the club’s accomplishments during the 2025-26 Rotary year. Don promises to give Adam an appropriate roast, which no doubt he will take in good humor.

Keenan Mayfield is Vice President of Operations at Sub Sea Systems, where his role helps turn big, creative underwater ideas into experiences guests can actually enjoy. He introduced his mother, Melissa Mayfield, CFO of the multigenerational family business based in Diamond Springs. Founded in 1985, this unique company designs and manufactures innovative aquatic attractions that make underwater experiences accessible to people of all ages and abilities. Its mission focuses on underwater accessibility, signature attractions, inclusive experiences and education through entertainment.  

Sub Sea Systems initially specialized in custom submersibles and semi-submersibles, building two submersibles and 21 semi-submersibles between 1989 and 2002. The company later expanded into new ways for people to experience the underwater world without requiring traditional scuba certification.

One of its most successful innovations is SeaTREK, a guided underwater helmet-diving experience introduced in 1999. Participants descend into the water wearing a helmet continuously supplied with fresh air, allowing them to walk and breathe normally while keeping their faces and hair dry. No swimming or scuba experience is required. More than 4 million people have participated in SeaTREK at more than 50 destinations in 26 countries on five continents. The company has also developed an adapted underwater wheelchair, allowing guests with disabilities to participate alongside family members.

Sub Sea Systems continues to develop new aquatic attractions. Among its latest innovations are the Bubble Pulse Gun, which shoots high-speed bubble rings underwater; Kaimana, a self-contained underwater arena featuring games and challenge courses; and Aquaticar, an underwater vehicle attraction currently operating at Aquarabia Water Theme Park in Saudi Arabia. Other products include SolarCat, a solar-electric catamaran, and Snorkel Drift, a towed snorkeling experience introduced in 2025.

Throughout his presentation, Keenan emphasized that the company’s goal extends beyond entertainment. By providing safe and accessible ways for people to experience the underwater world, Sub Sea Systems also hopes to educate participants about marine life, coral reefs and the importance of protecting our oceans.

Membership Chair Adam Marshall introduced Eunice Baker of Columbia Bank as our newest member and pointed out a couple of interesting dates on her application. Eunice’s birthday is Pi Day, March 14 (3.14), and her wedding anniversary with her husband, Vince, falls on Cinco de Mayo, May 5.

Eunice said she wanted to join our Rotary Club because its goals and vision align closely with her own values and those of Columbia Bank. She and Vince enjoy reaching out to the community and helping those in need, and her church is also strongly oriented toward community service. Eunice said she is excited to become a Rotarian.

Following her introduction, President Dan Gott presented Eunice with her temporary red badge. Adam then explained the requirements she’ll need to complete to advance to a permanent—and, as he pointed out, much nicer-looking—blue badge.
