Four students from Ponderosa High School competed in the annual Cameron Park Rotary Speech Contest. Their first names, grades, and future academic interests are: Reina, 10th grade, electrical engineering but too early to know what college; Elijah, 11th grade, may be interested in studying philosophy at Thomas Aquinas College; Brandon, 12th grade, art major with an emphasis in animation at Leeds University in England; and McKayla, 12th grade, political science major at an Oregon college.
“Making Connections as We Create Lasting Change” was the topic, which relates to this year’s Rotary Theme, “Rotary Connects the World.” The 4-8 minutes speeches were excellent and held the Rotarians complete attention. Reina was the recipient of a $250 first place prize followed by Elijah, who received $150 as the second-place finisher. McKayla and Brandon tied for third; both were awarded $75.
Bill Hughes - The Area 6 Foundation dinner originally scheduled for 4-2-20 has been canceled.
Vickie Christensen McLain - The Area 6 music and speech contests are still scheduled for 4-5-20 in Placerville.
Steve Long - Former member Sean Cox died suddenly of a heart attack. He was 49.
Roger Hassler - A former District Governor is receiving cancer treatments.
Art Cort- Bob Clarke is not in good health but is at home.
Bill Gallant and Laurie Edwards - Bob Edwards is doing well physically, however he does not remember peoples' names due to Alzheimer's disease.
