Stories
Next Week, Sept 26, 2019: Michelle Patterson & Kristine Guth
Michelle Patterson & Kristine Guth are with the El Dorado County, Emergency Medical Services and Emergency Preparedness and Response and will discuss a new Vegetation Management Ordinance which may impact homeowner insurance.
Last Week-September 19, 2019: Lori Parlin, County Supervisor
Lori Parlin, County Supervisor of District IV updated us on a number of issues affecting EDC with an emphasis on issues relevant to Cameron Park or nearby areas.  Hitting only some of the highlights:
  • The County wants to increase traffic impact mitigation (TIM) fees that developers have to pay to improve the infrastructure around their developments.  Facing opposition from developers, of course.
  • The Cameron Park Airport is working with surrounding property owners on bringing their trees down to a FAA-approved height.
  • Cannabis ordinances have been approved and licenses are currently being processed.  Looking to remove illegal cannabis grows.
  • EDC now has an ordinance mandating 100’ of defensible space from structure; Enforcement will begin in 2020.  Good to start talking and working as a neighborhood since it does no good for only 1-2 homes in a neighborhood to have defensible space.
  • Get the word out on CodeRED:  visit http://ready.edso.org and click on the CodeRED ogo.  For assistance, call 530-621-5895.
  • Fire Districts:  The County is supportive of those districts that are working towards efficiencies such as consolidation.
  • Homeowners Insurance:  The issue of policy cancellations because of fear of wildfires is becoming a crisis.  The County has sent a letter to the Insurance Commissioner expressing our concern on the deep impacts to EDC.
  • There are a number of historical pioneer cemeteries that have become the responsibility of the county due to no private owner.  Although there is going to be a vote on a $8 parcel tax to take care of this funding, there was discussion on whether the club might want to take on maintenance of a cemetery.
We thanked Supervisor Parlin for the informative presentation and Q&A period, and said she is welcome back any time.
