Jeanne Amos, retiring EDC Library director, spoke to us about the history of the Cameron Park library and others across the County. Who knew that the Cameron Park Library had its roots in Pollock Pines! In 1994 Amos became the branch manager of the newly opened Cameron Park Library under then county library director Marilyn Crouch. She said it was amazing to be a part of growing the Cameron Park Friends of the Library — a nonprofit group whose goal is to support library and community outreach programs while enriching lives through the county library system — and doing “fundraiser after fundraiser.” The library had no lights for the first five months of its existence! Amos’ career took a turn in 1995 when she was named the interim El Dorado County library director after Crouch resigned. Amos eventually became the official director and said she got right to work on the exciting project of building a new library in El Dorado Hills, which opened in 2006. Amos also told us the serendipitous story about how the EDC Historical Museum in Placerville came to be under the authority of the Library Director for the county. She also told us of the massive changes that technology has made in how we use, manage and interact with our libraries and the media they contain. “I became a librarian because it was a natural fit — books, research and helping people all combined into one profession for me. What could be better?” —“I do believe that libraries change lives,” Amos said. Thank you for your service, Jeanne! |
