Mike Ranalli, County Supervisor for District 4, provided information about the County and the issues it is facing. El Dorado County has 5 districts, each with a Supervisor. The districts are required to be equal in population. They will be revised after the 2020 census. District 4, compared to the other County districts, has the most County maintained road miles and the most privately maintained road miles, the most parcels, the most mileage along Highway 50 and the most water wells. One of the most significant issues the County must deal with in the near future is water supply and distribution. Water distribution infrastructure, the responsibility of the water purveyors, e.g. EID and the Georgetown Divide Public Utility District, is currently concentrated in the more populated areas and developed agricultural areas. Water supply is the County’s responsibility. Mike described the current supply system and the failed Auburn Dam Project. New supply will be required in the future. The most promising supply project is the Alder Creek Dam Project. It would be at 6,000 feet elevation and located entirely on Federal land. Federal agencies have indicated their support of the project and have designated funding for its study. Mike welcomed and answered questions from the audience.
