This Week's Meeting, August 27, 2026:  Dave Sargent, Rotary Club of Cameron Park Foundation

This week’s program features our own Dave Sargent. Dave retired in 2005 after a 36-year career in public education, including 22 years as Principal of Ponderosa High School. A Rotarian for 40 years, Dave has held many leadership roles, including serving as Club President in 1996–97. Today, he continues to give back as President of the Rotary Club of Cameron Park Foundation Board and as International Services Chair.

This meeting also serves as our annual Foundation meeting, where the slate of officers for next year will be elected. Dave will guide us through important topics, including:

     - The impactful work of our local foundation- funds educational and vocational grants, and community projects that benefit both youth and adults.

     -  A “state of the foundation” update, covering our current financial standing and the initiatives we are pursuing.

     - The Darryl Rasmussen Endowment Fund, honoring the legacy of one of our treasured late Rotarians.

In addition, Gary Clarke will touch on the distinction between the Rotary International Foundation and our own Cameron Park Rotary Community Foundation.

We look forward to hearing from Dave about the impact of our foundation in our community and from Gary about the important work The Rotary Foundation supports around the world. This promises to be an informative and inspiring program.

Last Week's Social, August 20, 2026:  Outgoing President Adam Marshall's Debunking

This week we celebrated Past President Adam Marshall’s 2025-26 Rotary year with his Debunking at an evening social at Don and Linda Fuller’s home in Shingle Springs. Don, acting as MC, welcomed everyone and thanked them for their contributions to the evening-- including food, wine, and a beer refrigerator. Don introduced Adam who had a special recognition to present. In his final act as president, Adam introduced Mary Chan, a relatively new member to the club and retired military logistician, and presented her with her blue badge.

Richard Forster, our district 5190 district governor-elect, came from nearby Ione to speak about membership. He mentioned various ways of coming up with membership candidates. After a conference he attended, DGE Forster came up with a list of 35 individuals in his town that he would invite to a meeting. Eventually seven of those became Rotary members. He discussed the inspiring current Rotary International president Olayinka (Yinka) Hakeem Babalola and his initiative to grow RI to 1.25 million Rotarians by 2030.

The highlight of Adam’s debunking was a skit performed by Gary Clarke (playing the part of Pres. Adam), Dave Sargent and Kathy Thompson.  The skit humorously poked fun at Adam’s eagerness to take on new projects, his many ideas, and his weekly Dad’s jokes.  Don acknowledged a number of accomplishments during Adam’s tenure such as increasing fundraising totals and establishing a new Interact Club at Ponderosa High School.
Adam was provided a last chance to address the audience. He thanked the board members and volunteers, emphasizing the importance of teamwork and Rotary leadership. He presented custom-etched Rotary Club of Cameron Park whiskey glasses to the board members and volunteers. Don and others expressed their appreciation for Adam's leadership and his contributions to the club during the 2026-2027 Rotary year.  To manifest that appreciation, Don presented Adam with a collage of memories (see photo) from the year signed by every member of the club at the event.
