Next Meeting, Sep-21-2023:  Colette Thiel and Amber Jaurequi, Homes for Heros Program
Colette Thiel and Amber Jaurequi (pronounced hot-a-key) will discuss the Homes for Heros program.  Homes for Heroes, Inc. stands as the largest nationwide network of affiliate real estate, mortgage, and local businesses, dedicated to offering convenient ways for heroes to enjoy savings on their homes.  This program was founded shortly after the events of 9-11 to express gratitude to firefighters, EMS, law enforcement, military (active, reserves & veterans), healthcare professionals and teachers for their outstanding contributions.

Colette and her husband, Michael, founded the Thiel Real Estate & Property Management Company in 2010.  They have a combined 32 years of experience representing buyers/sellers/investors in Ventura & Los Angeles Counties.  In 2019, the company opened an expansion office in the greater Sacramento area serving El Dorado, Sacramento, and Placer Counties.  The Thiels became affiliates this year with Homes for Heroes, which is close to their hearts as both Colette and Michael had military fathers, Colette’s siblings were all in the military and their oldest son is a firefighter with Sac Metro and their daughter works in healthcare.  In addition, Colette currently serves as President of the Shingle Springs Cameron Park Chamber of Commerce.

Amber is a Branch Manager/Senior Loan Consultant for Geneva Financial.  She is VA certified and has been doing VA loans for over 28 years. She also works with Homes for Heroes.  She says, “A helping hand for our Veterans and our First Responders is the least we can do.” But if you ask her, her biggest accomplishment is her family. Her family is her “Why.”  Amber married her high school sweetheart, Cheyenne. They have three children (ages 23, 19 and 17), who are and have always been the center of their lives. They all love living in rural El Dorado County.

Last Meeting, Sep-14-2023:  Adam Marshall, Recent Mobilization for the Maui Wildfires
Our originally scheduled program is postponed due to the speaker becoming ill.  Club member (and Air Force Colonel) Adam J. Marshall stepped in as a last-minute replacement, with just one hour’s notice, four hours of sleep, and no notes, to deliver a presentation on his recent involvement in mobilizing efforts for the Maui Wildfires.  (Thank you, Adam!)

Aside from working for the Federal Aviation Administration as a civilian, Adam is a Colonel in the Hawaii Air National Guard, where he serves as the Director of Operations on the Headquarters' staff.  Because of his position, he was asked to mobilize for three weeks to get the initial recovery efforts underway and stabilized for the City of Lahaina, Maui County, Hawaii.

Adam educated the club on how the "Incident Command System" run by the Federal Emergency Management Agency organizes civilian and military forces during a natural disaster.  As one of only a handful of officers' in the Hawaii Air National Guard qualified as both a Joint Task Force (JTF) and Dual Status Commander (DSC), Adam quickly volunteered for activation.  Although the lead role of DSC ultimately went to an Army officer, Adam was asked to come to Hawaii and organize the Hawaii Air National Guard's efforts.  Overall, Adam led a team which stood-up a 700-member JTF, supporting an additional 1,500 federal/state/county civilians to meet the needs of the Lahaina area.  At the time of his presentation, the combined effort had housed nearly 7,000 survivors in 24 hotels; provided 425,000 meals; and recovered the remains of 115 loved ones in just a month’s time.
