 Last Thursday we rang in the new 2023-2024 Rotary year under the leadership of President Cathy Dugan. During the meeting, President Cathy presented some goals of her own, and had various Board members discuss plans for the coming year. One "housekeeping" item that Cathy presented regards the length of speakers presentations and the meetings as a whole. She will make every effort to end meeting on time by 1:30 PM. If people need to leave before 1:30, she asks that they let her know ahead of time so she can inform the speaker that some members need to leave early so the speaker wouldn't perceive the early departures as rudeness. Her membership goal for the year is to increase our number of members from about 47 to 60. Such a goal is only possible if members work to bring prospects to meetings and to get them on Anne Eckert's list of prospects. We also need to plan fun and informative meetings. Gary Clarke (in Gary Gall's absence) reported on the financial success of the Wine & Beer Fest at the County Fair. We had a net profit of about $8,200. Dave Sargent talked about the next steps in our International Projects in Calle Real, Nicaragua. There is a goal to bring other Rotary Clubs on-board to help fund future phases of the project. He also mentioned that we will be have some of our Scholarship winners and their parents attend some of our meetings and that we should all try to make those visitors feel welcomed. President Cathy mentioned a goal of doing a project with the Wakamatsu Farm, perhaps helping them build permanent restrooms. Cathy also said that she would be using Zero-based-Budgeting, and that Board members would need to provide their budget requests early in the year. Laurie talked about our future Rotary Friends and Family Night at "our" Community Observatory in October. There were more reports by board members, but suffice it to say that there are a lot of plans and goals for the new year that should give us all plenty to be involved in. |
