Karen Guthrie (pictured) and Beverly Campbell told us many stories of Cameron Park, based on their recent book: Building a Community: Cameron Park "A Special Place to Live". Karen was a partner in the Guthrie and Guthrie law firm (now named Guthrie & Ellerman) and her husband Gale was a member and past president of CP Rotary Club.
Several members bought an autographed copy of the book after the meeting. "Building a Community: Cameron Park" is available at the administration office of the CP Community Services District for a donation of $28 or more (cash or check payable to the El Dorado Community Foundation (EDCF)) . Bill Hughes introduced and showed a 6-minute video from Channel 2 describing the CP Rotary Club's Bicycle Project, a talk by Warden Rick Hill of Folsom State Prison and an introduction of the two inmates who are now refurbishing the bikes. The video gave frequent credit to our club and the role we play in getting working bicycles to groups and individuals who really need them -- as the title of the video puts it, transforming "Junk to Joy." Gary Campbell of Channel 2 and our own Laurie Edwards provided the camera work, and Bill Hughes provided research material for the video. Dave Sargent - Signup sheets to indicate initial interest in Charitable Tour to Nicaragua are on each table. This is to travel in the May/June time-frame to complete our 2020 international project: building a playground and sports court.
Bill Hughes - Hold the Date: April 2 is the Foundation Dinner at Shingle Springs Community Center at 5:30 pm.
Laurie Edwards - Displayed and circulated banners from India, Belgium and Arkansas Rotary Clubs. She presented wine bags sewn by kids from India slums to the Clarkes and President Dave.
